If you like something sweet and authentic
- Julie’s house

Julie's house was developed by a 25-year-old Belgian girl named ‘Julie’. Ever since she was younger, she had a dream to develop a cosy place where people could enjoy a nice piece of artisan pie and a cup of coffee. Julie decided she wanted to make her dream of having a cake house a reality. She bought a building in the centre of Ghent, and it quickly became one of the cosiest pastry places that brings people together.

Julie now has two shops in Ghent and helps her team on busy days. There even is a cake machine where the tasty cakes can be picked up 24/7. Julie’s house has a wide range of cakes, breakfast, brownies, scones and so much more.

The shop has a few specialties, for example: the white chocolate cake with speculaas and the cheesecake with berries and speculaas. The cake melts on your tongue and is definitely worth a penny.

Julies House 2

As a conclusion, we think Julie's house is worth the hype and popularity. It's a cosy and warm place where people can enjoy some cake.

More than just a loaf of bread
- Pain & Co(mpagnie)

Pain & Compagnie also known as Pain & Co is a very well-located pastry shop, right in the centre of Ghent. It’s located in Kalandeberg 3, the house on the corner. It’s close to the Veldstraat and other famous shopping streets Ghent has to offer so it’s perfect for taking a pause.Citrus cake and pink macaron

At Pain & Co, you can eat special biscuits, uniquely in Ghent. It’s also very important to know that Pain & Co only has outdoor seating but even in winter it’s nice to pay them a visit because there are blankets laying around on the terrace.

The most important part is of course the food. As you can see in the picture, we got a whole lot of food and it all tasted amazing. The citrus cake is a big recommendation, same as the pink macaron.

All in all, Pain & Co is the perfect place to drink a coffee together with one of their pastries and watch people stroll by right in the city centre.

If you're into vegan and healthy pastries
- Madam Bakster

Cake "Camille"

Madam Bakster is a coffee bar located at 142 Brabantdam. The bar focuses on healthy and sugar-free and vegan desserts, a different concept from other coffee bars.

The pastries are each named after a person. We tried Camille, a cake made of avocado. Like us, you can of course have a coffee with this, with or without milk alternatives such as almond or hazelnut milk. With the coffee you also get delicious caramel popcorn as a special treat. One piece of cake costs €4,5.

If you are looking for a cosy and quiet venue, Madam Bakster is definitely the place to be. If you don't have time to eat on site, there is also a possibility of take away.

Opening hours:

  • Monday: from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Tuesday: Closed
  • Wednesday - Sunday: from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Not the 'ordinary' Belgian pastries
- Jacquet

Jacquet is a unique  French brunch & breakfast place. It is located at Vlaanderenstraat 118. They serve delicious French pastries. So if you would like to taste something different from the "regular" Belgian pastries, now you know where to go!

We tried the famous bresiliennet cake and a lemon cake. It is not expensive at all and tastes delicious. The bresiliennet cake was €3.60 and the lemon cake was €3.90.

Bresiliennet cake and lemon cake

The bresiliennet cake is a cake which has a base of soft dough covered with a layer of flan. The final touch is lots of whipped cream and bresiliennet nuts. This cake was a recommendation from the manager, who told us that they are the only ones in Ghent who sell this cake.

It's a very cozy place to have brunch or a pastry with friends and family. Definitely highly recommended. We loved it!

A well-known chain worldwide
- Pain Quotidien

Le Pain Quotidien in Ghent is part of an international chain of bakery restaurants. This restaurant has been around for thirty years. Located at Korenmarkt 16, in the center of Ghent, it is quite a large building. The location is very close to the shopping area, making it an ideal stopover.

Le Pain Quotidien sells different types of food, such as tartines, pastries and much more. They strive for quality and simplicity. There is plenty of seating, both indoors and outdoors.

As for the food, there is certainly nothing to complain about. The picture shows the pastries we tried. We tasted a vegan apple crumble (€5.95) and a vegan chocolate moelleux (€5.25). They were both very tasty.

In short, Le Pain Quotidien is a nice place to pop in for a delicious pastry.
