To open our Top 5 Waffles in Town, we recommend Go-fre. A colorful, cheerful and jovial establishment located on a busy corner in the center of Gent. Here you can not only buy tasty traditional Belgian waffles, but also their original and unique specialty: waffles on a stick! 😝🍡
Their dough made in Brugges, with only Belgian ingredients, made us want to experience this original taste, so we tried it au naturel. We recommend you to choose this place if you feel like a rainbow waffle with toppings. In that case, you might want to try their waffle on a stick for a smooth eating experience without getting your hands dirty! 😋👐
As for toppings, they offer Belgian chocolate, as well as a variety of sprinkles, marshmallows, smarties and hazelnuts, among others...😍
All this above for about 3€, depending on the option you choose - there are so many that you'll want them all-. Although our general recommendation for waffles is to go easy and order a plain one, if you want to enjoy a cheerful and tasty waffle experience in an original format, this is your place!

Maximiliaan is one of the stores we visited and is located in the center of Gent. The first impression we had of this place was how charming it was. The place had an amazing terrace surrounded by nature and daylight that invited us to spend some time talking while we enjoyed our waffles. 🌳🌞🌸
The waffle itself, compared to other places, we think it could have been better, however this time we decided to order the sugar waffle accompanied by a vanilla snowball along with melted chocolate, which totally enhanced the experience! One particular thing we really liked about this place was the wonderful service of the staff. The price for the waffle, ice cream and chocolate was a total of 12€. We think that since this place is a restaurant and not a spot where you just grab your waffle and go, it's quite a bit more expensive. 🙈🙈

Australian Home Made Ice Cream has many locations throughout the country, and they became known as being one of the best places to go for waffles and ice cream in the country since back in 1989. They started as a small store in Knokke and since their great waffles and ice cream flavors have been growing all over Belgium.🍦
In Australian you can also find a variety of toppings you can put on your waffle to make it more yummy, as well as the best-selling waffle combinations. Their dough is handmade in Brussels and delivered to all their stores in Belgium. Australian waffles are a great option when you want to use your imagination to create the most delicious and unique waffle, plus you can always accompany your waffle with a scoop of ice cream of your favorite flavor, as well as they have a wide range of toppings, they also have a wide variety of ice cream flavors that could perfectly accompany your waffle. 💛😱
Our recommendation would be to try the Liège waffle as it was the one we were tasting in most of the stores, since then, we suggest that you take a simple waffle without toppings in order to have a clear taste of the bread and to find out which waffle brand you like the most. This normal waffle will cost you 3€, in case you want to add toppings the price may increase more.

For our second best waffle place we present you Oyya. When you visit this modern and cozy ice cream bar you can order your waffle plain or with caramel, whipped cream, chocolate or hazelnut spread. However, the exquisite dough of the waffles already contains the sugar and flavor that gives them our top 2. Not only do we say so, but it is also one of the places with the best reviews on the internet. This minimalist and attractive place really offers one of the best tasting waffles, with a nice texture, crispy on the outside but soft and delicious on the inside...Nothing better than this warm and cozy moment on a typical cold winter day in Gent - you'll have to refrain yourself from coming every day after you taste them! 😋💞😻
You can find two locations in the center of Gent, and they also have two others in Brugge, in case you visit the neighboring city and want to repeat there as well. 🔁
Good news for your pocket too, the price of the basic waffle at Oyya is only 2,70€, the second cheapest too. For this price, who wouldn't enjoy them?

Located at the heart of Gent, Koffie Arom is definitely one of the best places to get waffles in your visit. This waffle stand is located at the train station Gent-St-Pieters, when arriving to the city the delicious smell of coffee and waffles embraces you in a warm welcome. 👋
And as you leave the city, the same smell bids you farewell and watches you leave with a gentle smile. 😋
A remainder of what this lovely city has to offer...
Now, what should you get? Our recommendation is the regular waffle with powdered sugar on it. Personally, we believe that waffles with only sugar are the best kind of waffles you can get, because you get to taste the waffle in and out of itself without overwhelming you with any kind of toppings. 🌈
In terms of prices, out of all the places we visited this one had the cheapest prices. The regular waffle costs 1.80€ and with sugar the price increases up to 1.90€. In case of additional toppings you can add whipped cream and chocolate for an additional 0.70€ on average.

In the end, Belgium is well known for their fries, beer, and most importantly, waffles and Gent is not the exception to this. There are several places that offer delicious waffles to visit in Gent that if we took the time to write about, this would be a never ending blog post. We, in the end, chose these places because of their location, taste, and prices, but nonetheless if you run into a waffle place not listed in this blogpost you should definitely give it a try!
