In Spain, a night out isn’t really over until you’ve had your “recena”🍔. So of course, we brought that tradition with us on Erasmus to Gent.

After countless nights (and early mornings) on Overpoort, we’ve found the go-to spots for that post-party hunger😋. So here’s our Top 5 late-night bites that always save the night: quick, tasty and full of student vibes🎉.

 

1. Pizza Overpoort

At Pizza Overpoort 🍕, you get exactly what every student wants after a night out: something cheap, fast, and delicious🙌. For just €1.50, you can grab a big, tasty slice of pizza, perfect when you’re on a budget or just need a quick bite before heading home💸.
The best part? They’re super quick, you get your slice in seconds, hot and ready🔥. And if you’re feeling extra hungry, you can also order a whole pizza at a really good price, perfect to share with friends (or not 😉).
It’s honestly one of our favorite spots, whether we’re coming straight from a night out or just popping in for a quick snack between beers. Definitely one of the top late snack spots in Overpoort for students who want good food without spending much.

2. Stefano's Place

At Stefano’s Place 🍟, you’ll find one of the best spots in Overpoort for a proper late snack. It’s the kind of place you end up at without even planning it and somehow, it always hits the spot😋.
We tried their famous fries with Jamballa sauce, which seems to be one of the staff's personal favorites and wow... just the right balance of crispy fries and creamy sauce🔥
The atmosphere is student-friendly 🙌, making it a great place to grab something tasty on the go. Whether it's a late night dinner or just a snack between activities, Stefano's Place delivers fast, hot and satisfying bites every time.

3. Frituur Oost

After going to a Spanish Party at Luxx, Overpoort, we always end up at Frituur Oost 🌯. Our go-to order here is their kebab box, packed with fries, kebab meat and plenty of sauces 🤤. Every bite is warm, flavorful and exactly what we need before going back home. 

The best part? They stay open late. When other places have already shut down, you can always count on Frituur Oost for a proper late-night snack, they never disappopint🌙

4. De Gouden Saté

After a long night out in Overpoort bowling where we played 8 pool and of course bowling, we ended up at De Gouden Saté🥔 to recharge our batteries and it was exactly what we needed.

We went for their house special loaded fries, called Julientje, topped with their homemade stew sauce, mayonaise, dried onions and sausages🔥

Bonus: the woman working there speaks Spanish, which is great for Erasmus students.

It’s the kind of place where you can just sit back, enjoy your massive fries and chat about the crazy night you’ve had. Plus, everything is served quickly, which is perfect when hunger hits hard at 3 a.m.

5. Chefdag Overpoort

Chefdag Overpoort🍗 was the first late-night spot we discovered. After our first Erasmus Karaoke night in the city, we ended up there and, honestly, it was such a good idea. 

What really makes this place special is the indoor seating area, where you can actually sit down, relax and enjoy your food in peace. The atmosphere is cozy and comfortable, making it a great place to hang out with friends or just take a quiet break from the street buzz 🙌.

If you’re into fried chicken and want a spot that combines great flavor with a chill space to eat, Chefdag Overpoort is definitely worth a visit 🍟✨.
