1. The one with the most exclusive dishes: Edel Rot

Hidden away behind the old tram tracks🚃, there lies Edel Rot, a fancy but snug bar. The wine-lovers🍷 should really pay Edel Rot a visit. The bartender offers you wine based on your preference. It is a really great and unique experience.

They offer a lot of food, which they call comfort food. We tasted the nachos from the oven, camembert from the oven, oyster mushroom tempura🍤 and bitterballs. The barfood was truly more creative than we first thought. All the options were unlike any other bar. Everything was just perfect! There is nothing more to comment on, except the price💰 was a bit higher than the other bars. We will certainly come back another time and taste more of the delicious food.
We think the vibe is cozier during the cold evening🌆 instead of in the afternoon. There are some cute twinkle lights💡 on the front-porch, which add to the cozy feeling in the evening.

2. The one where you walk out happier than you went in: Elmo

Across the Lys we visited Elmo, a small but homey bar. For those who love people-watching🔎, this is the perfect place. It is very crowded from opening till closing.
We tasted the margherita babypizza and the ‘dips of love’. The dips were made with seasonal vegetables and presented with the most delicious focaccia, served hot and crispy. We couldn't really identify what was in those dips, but we do know they were very tasty😋.
We cannot emphasise enough how much we loved the barfood! It was raining when we visited, and it was so cozy. We played some card games🃏, listened to some wonderful music🎷 and just enjoyed our time there.

3. The one where the Irish dancers could emerge from the backroom: Patrick Foley's

In the same street as Bar Elmo, we visited Patrick Foley's, an authentic Irish pub. It's that kind of bar where you are transported to the other side of Europe🌍.
We ordered the onion rings🧅, the chicken tenders, the mozzarella sticks and the cheesy nacho's (we know, this was a lot, even for us). Everything was delicious, and what made it even better were all the sauces, for example the garlic dip, the guacamole 🥑 ... . A lot of options were vegetarian🌱, which is a huge bonus-point.

4. The one where you can taste the Irish in Ireland: Celtic Towers

On the historic Sint-Michielbrug🌉 there is a traditional Irish Pub, The Celtic Towers. It is right next to the Korenmarkt. It’s less known to students👩🎓.
The barfood has mostly fried snacks. We tasted the Irish fries and the sharing platter. Due to the variety of the platter, everyone had something they enjoyed, for example jalapeño poppers, cocktail sausages🍹, onion rings … . It was kind of heavy, because of the fried food. The price-quantity was really good👍, because we got tons of food.
Rating:
We give the barfood a 4 out of 5.
The overall vibe gets a 3,5/5. It was right next to a bus lane🚌, so the terras wasn't that cozy.
The price for a drink and a lot of snacks to share is around €1 - €10 per person.

5. The one where you take part in the real student experience: venTura

In the heart of Ghent ❤️ is a cozy bar, venTura. It is located on the Vrijdagsmarkt. This bar is very popular and highly rated among the students and youngsters of Ghent. In the evening it gets very crowded.
The bar offers a variety of cold snacks. We tasted the edamame beans🫛, the vegan dips and the white pudding. The crackers had a long triangular shape, which made them a bit special. We were a bit surprised that the edamame and the white pudding were served cold, but they were, nonetheless, very tasty 😋. They offered three combinations of dips, including one with roasted strawberries with balsamico and basil. VenTura got last place in the ranking, because all the barfood was cold and we prefer warm snacks.
