1: Frituur Bij Filip

The most authentic fries of Ghent!

Frituur Bij Filip is pretty much a monument in the center of Ghent. The fries are lovingly made by the one and only Filip himself and in our opinion the best fries in Ghent.

It is also perhaps one of the smallest friteries in Ghent therefore the assortment is more limited than in other friteries. No worries boys and girls the Flemish classics can be found there. The portions on the other hand, jeez, you get a lot for your money. The prices are super good compared to other places, useful to know in these times!

Unfortunately, it is no secret that this fryer is the best in Ghent, sometimes there is a long traffic jam. The location is super, right behind the Korenmarkt (must see in Ghent) and right on the Leie, a river that runs through the center of Ghent.

2: De Gouden Saté

Place to be while going out

The Golden Saté is located in Ghent's well-known party neighborhood, Overpoort. A late night snack while going out is a must have for the most students. Unfortunately the fryer is very small and there is no place provided inside to eat. But this is not a problem at all. We took our fries and ate them in a nearby bar.

Furthermore, the fryer has a very wide range to offer. The fries are also available in 4 different sizes:

  • Small pack
  • Medium pack
  • Large pack
  • Maxi pack

All this at a reasonable price. In our opinion, the price-quality of the fries is very good. 👍

While visiting the fryer, we could not order anything else than "Julienke." This is the well-known specialty of De Gouden Saté. It is named after the previous owner. Julienke consists of a large pack of fries with delicious, homemade stew sauce, mayonnaise, sate seasoning and dried onions. Our Julienke looked just the same as in the pictures. The price was slightly expensive (8,5euro) but everyone ate well and enough. Highly recommended

3: Frietcultuur

Eating fries with students

De Frietcultuur is located not far from Ghent's party neighborhood, University of Ghent and is around the corner from College Artevelde. You can eat inside, take the fries to go or order via TakeAway and Deliveroo.

Frietcultuur offers 3 formats of fries:

  • Small pack
  • Medium pack
  • Large pack

The prices of the fries are cheap for us.  In addition, the chip shop also offers a wide range of vegetarian snacks, organic burgers and homemade dishes.🍔

We ordered a classic portion of fries. The value for money was good, the portion was definitely enough to fill all of us. The fries were crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Delicious.

The owner of the chip shop is a very friendly man who likes to pamper his customers. Altough there were not many people, we had to wait for a long time anyway. Not really a problem because the fries were really delicious.

4: Chasse Patat

The pink place by the road.

A pink building in a busy street with a lot of options to choose from, this is Chasse Patat.

Not too big in seating places but big in portions. This is what they do, Chasse Patat offers a big variety of snacks and burgers to choose from. Not a meat lover? Don't worry, they offer many vegan options as well which you should definitely try.

If you're looking for something homemade, we tried out their "stoofvlees". It was one of the best we've ever tried, except the one our moms make of course 😉. They also have "balletjes in tomatensaus" and the "stoofvlees" but for vegans.

They offer dine-in as well as take-away. When dining in you can enjoy their cozy interior with cycling stuff given by professional cyclists. When you rather do a quick take-away, you can go to their website and fill in your order by clicking the food you want and the time you want to have it and... boom! Warm and delicious fries are waiting for your arrival.

5: Frituur Tartaar

Most fancy place to eat fries in Ghent

Good fries, lots of choice and a cool environment.... what more could you ask for in Belgium? 😆

In the mood for fries, but not so much for the meats or looking for a great vegan selection? Perfect place in that case! The fryer makes distinct things like bite burgers and broccoli fritters. We ourselves were hard impressed with the fritters, highly recommended!

They have two locations in Ghent. One where you can take away and another place, nearby, where you can eat on the spot. What a beautiful setting wow! We had never seen such a cozy and beautiful chip shop. Nice weather? There is a spacious terrace where you can eat your fries. Again, this place is right in the center.

Even though there were not many people, we had to wait a long time for the fries. But it was worth the wait. They were those good, thick Belgian fries. On the more expensive side, though.
